EVENT - Crabbie's Grand National Ladies' Day Style Award, UK

March 10, 2015 by OnTrackOnTrend in EVENTS, ON TRACK

It's being billed as the biggest prize pool for a UK Best Dressed competition for several years - this year's Ladies' Day Style Award at the Crabbie's Grand National Festival prize package totals £26,000 and includes a Mini Cooper Roadster. To keep. Forever.Last year's Style Award finalists L-R: Danielle Fisher, Norma Murphy and winner Becky Nightingale. Photo from Aintree Racecourse Facebook page.Always known for its rather interesting and somewhat inappropriate display of raceday fashion, Aintree's Grand National style has recently been overhauled, with organisers issuing a "style code" based around the Coco Chanel quote "Dress shabbily and they remember the dress; dress impeccably and they remember the woman" (ouch...). Style ambassadors have also been selected to encourage proper dress, and include successful female jockey Katie Walsh and glamorous Channel 4 racing presenter Emma Spencer.“This year we have raised the bar with Ladies Day and our Style Award,” said Mike Sarath, Regional Head of Marketing at The Jockey Club. “We’ve carried out a great deal of research and our customers are telling us they want to see more emphasis on style and racing for Ladies Day."The method of entry has also been tweaked this year to ensure those interested in entering aren't put-off by lengthy queues.“In previous years racegoers had to queue up in Red Rum Garden and fill in entry forms," said Sarath. "This year they will see a big difference, we’ve spread style across the course and made it easier for everyone to enter."Those wanting to take part certainly won’t have any trouble spotting where to head – we’ve had giant golden mirror frames custom-made for entrants to be photographed in. They will be placed in key locations across the course and anyone will be able to have their photograph taken standing in the frames by our style photographers."Entrants can start posing up a storm from 10am. Their photographs will be whittled down to a top 10 by a panel of judges, with the finalists appearing in the parade ring before the fourth race for the all-important winner's announcement.Where: Aintree Racecourse, Ormskirk Road, Liverpool, Merseyside, UK L9 5AS.When: Crabbie's Grand National Ladies' Day, Friday, April 10.Prizes: View the full list here. For further info: Visit the Crabbie's Grand National site.
