EVENT: Galway Ladies' Day, Ireland

July 30, 2013 by OnTrackOnTrend in ON TRACK

Ireland's most glamorous will be lining up at Galway Racecourse on Thursday, August 1 for its famed Best Dressed Person competition, sponsored so generously by Anthony Ryans Ltd. Although the title does say "Person", I believe all prior winners have been women, and any gents wishing to enter will have to go to great lengths to stand-out among the crowds of impeccably-dressed ladies. However, last year the main prize was swept away by a foreigner when Australian Kelli Odell prevailed over the Irish beauties in a striking salmon pink and black ensemble from her hometown.2012 winner Kelli Odell with main sponsor, Anthony Ryan. Photo from the Anthony Ryans Facebook page.Perhaps due to Kelli's all-Australian win, those wishing to enter this year are being encouraged to "wear Irish" and incorporate an element of Irish design in their outfit. And to reward the person who fulfills the brief the best, Anthony Ryans has introduced a new category - the Wear Irish award - which comes with a €500 voucher from the sponsor. There will also be an additional award for the Best Hat, with tempting prizes on offer for the winner.Where: Galway Racecourse, Ballybrit, Galway Co. GalwayWhen: August 1, 2013. Although there is no formal entry procedure, those wishing to enter are advised to arrive early as judges will wander around the racecourse and choose their finalists by 2:30pm. The winners are expected to be announced around 3:30pm with prizes awarded after the fifth race.Wear: Your best summer racewear with an element of Irish design.Prizes: Right, this is a long list...For the winner of Anthony Ryan's Best Dressed Person:

  • A one-carat diamond solitaire pendant, valued at €8,500
  • A €1,500 shopping spree at Anthony Ryans
  • €1,000 cash

A handy tip if you're traveling from interstate would be to check the weather because its very warm in Cairns but remember tran-seasonal winter racewear is expected.Sadly I don't think i'll be able to make it, but i'll be sure to have my phone on me for updates as the day and competition progress.Hanging with a double sashed Amanda Macor at Oaks day at Flemington last year showing Cairns ladies know how to dress! For full details and terms and conditions visit the Cairns Jockey Club onlineFashions on the Field infoCairns Jockey Club HomeBy Angela

House of Baulch

July 28, 2013 by OnTrackOnTrend in ON TREND

This weekend thanks to Instagram I discovered House of Baulch was having a one day sale at their studio in Collingwood. What a find! If you aren't familiar with HoB it's an accessories label that packs a punch with strong statement pieces, bold use of colour and lashings of gold. All things I love in my accessories.Having bought HoB pieces in the past I knew of the label but never had a chance to see the range properly in the flesh, having only seen most things online (www.houseofbaulch.com) Designer Kathryn Baulch was there to help with selecting pieces from the current season, past seasons, samples and one offs.20130728-234837.jpgI walked out of there with some amazing pieces that will definitely be featuring in my spring racing wardrobe and my day to day outfits. It was very hard not to scoop up one of everything because the pieces fit so well with my own aesthetic. I prefer to wear accessories that announce themselves- that is, pieces that you cannot ignore and command attention. My favourite pieces at the sale were the tassels and I left with two pairs of jumbo tassel earrings and a neck piece type scarf made of twenty two jumbo tassels that was made for a fashion show. Not having much self control I also picked up other earrings, bracelets, bangles, a bag and a ring.20130728-234821.jpgStatement jewellery is very 'on trend' at the moment but can be a little tricky to wear. It is generally accepted that you wear one statement piece and keep everything else fairly simple. However when you have statement jewellery as fabulous as this is I say more is more! Stack, layer and pile on your jewels, its much more fun that way!20130728-234811.jpg 20130728-234856.jpgBy Angela
