When the invitation to the official opening of Rice Workshop landed in my inbox I was intrigued and more than a little bit excited. I was promised a new Japanese food concept along with an opening night dress theme of Harajuku. Having been to Japan a few years ago and immediately falling in love with its food and fashion I was looking forward to the evening- and it did not disappoint!
MAArvelous Millinery a cocktail and millinery event was held by the Millinery Association of Australia on Thursday 3rd October at the Leopard Lounge, Melbourne Zoo. It was run to showcase the work of the Millinery Association in the lead up to spring carnival and raise awareness for mental health research in conjunction with Rotary Health. It was a great night with 27 milliners (including myself) taking part in the event. Given the location of the Melbourne Zoo for the event a jungle theme was declared for the evening. MAA President, Richard Nylon was host for the night in a very appropriate animal print hat.Dancentre and their fabulous dancers put on a show with specially made animal hats to open the night. Then as guests nibbled on canapes and sipped on champagne each participating milliner showed their top looks for the Spring Carnival on stage. After the show and some prizes given out for the night, guests had a chance to speak to the milliners and go shopping! I saw a number of guests leaving with newly acquired hat boxes in hand with the contents ready to make an appearance at one of the many race days coming up.A very special thanks must go to fellow milliner Sandy Forrester who put an enormous amount of work in creating and making the event happen. It was also great to hear from a number of people that said they have seen and are enjoying On Track On Trend!By Angela
